Question

A 3.5 GHz uniform plane wave with electric field oriented in the az direction with peak value of 10 V/m is normally incident from air on a perfectly conducting surface located at y = 0. Subscripts i represent the incident wave, subscripts r the reflected wave. The dotted arrows show the direction of propagation.

a) Write the complex phasor expressions (e^j?t) for the incident and reflected fields electric and magnetic fields.

b) Write the real-time (cos or sin) expressions for the incident and reflected electric and magnetic fields.

c) Write the phasor expressions for the total electric and magnetic fields (sum of incident and reflected).

d) Write the real-time expressions for the total electric and magnetic fields (HINT: You will want to take advantage of the formulas 1/2(e^j? + e^-j?) and sin(?) = 1/2j(e^j? - e^-j?).

e) Determine the nearest location to the reflecting surface where the total electric field is zero at all times. f) Determine the nearest location to the reflecting surface where the total magnetic field is zero at all times.
