Question
A cart(m = 2.0 k) is pushed up an inclined plane by a horizontal force F = 40 N. There is no friction. (a) Compute W_F, the work done by the applied force F. (b) Compute W_g the work done by the force of gravity, W. (c) Compute W_N, the work done by the normal force, F_N. (d) Compute the total work done by the three forces from W_= W_F + W_g + W_N. (c) Compute F_net, the magnitude of the net force acting on the box. What is the angle between F_net and the surface of the ramp? (f) Compute the work done by the net force, from W_net = F_net DeltaF costheta.Explanation / Answer
a) Force F is applied in horizontal direction
Horizontal distance covered = .80m
So work done = force* distance = 40*.8 = 32N
b) Force of gravity= mg = 2*10= 20N
Vertical distance travelled= .6m
Work done = -20*.6 = -12 N sign is negative as work done is against gravity
c)Normal force is always perpenjdicular to motion so it is zero.
d)Sum of thress forces = 32-12+0 = 20 N
