Question
Answers to the questions should be in detail i.e. some answers, along with an explanation, might require diagrams, graphs etc. Please provide necessary explanation along with diagrams etc., wherever required. Keep track of the due date. No late submissions will be entertained. This assignment should be submitted through the blackboard only. You may use either paragraph style of writing or answer in bullet form (whichever is convenient). Please provide references for resources (diagrams, graphs etc.) used for answering the questions. References should be provided (in the order they have been used in the assignment) at the end of the assignment. You may want to refer to APA for guidelines on how to provide references. There is no minimum or maximum page limit for this assignment. Question I. Describe ionic, covalent, and metallic bonds.Explanation / Answer
IONIC BOND - It is a type of chemical bond that generates two oppositely charged ions. In ionic bonds, the metal loses electrons to become a positively charged cation, whereas the nonmetal accepts those electrons to become a negatively charged anion.
COVALENT BOND - covalent bond, also called a molecular bond, is a chemical bond that involves the sharing of electron pairs between atoms. These electron pairs are known as shared pairs or bonding pairs, and the stable balance of attractive and repulsive forces between atoms, when they share electrons, is known as covalent bonding.
METALLIC BONDS - is the force of attraction between valence electrons and the metal ions. It is the sharing of many detached electrons between many positive ions, where the electrons act as a "glue" giving the substance a definite structure.
