Question
What is the magnitude B of the magnetic field at the location of the charge due to the current carrying wire? Express your answer in teslas Learning Goal To practice Problem-Solving Strategy 24.2 Magnetic force problems View Available Hint(s) A long straight horizontal wire carries a current I 3.10 A to the left. A positive 1.00 C charge moves to the right at a distance 2.50 m above the wire at constant speed v = 4000 m/s . (Figure 1) What are the magnitude and the direction of the magnetic force on the charge? Figure 1 of 1 B- 1.44 10 SubmitPrev evious Ans X Incorrect; Try AgainExplanation / Answer
Given,
I = 3.10 A
q = 1 C
v = 4000 m/s
d = 2.50 m
Then,
By 1st right hand rule, B forms circles around the wire which will be into the page above the wire.
As we can see that in figure the wire with I to the left. v is to the right.
So,
B = u0*I/2*pi*r
B = 4*pi*10^(-7)*3.10 / 2*pi*2.50
B = 2.48*10^(-7) T
