Question

Consider the following figure. Note: The currents are not necessarily in the direction shown. (Assume R1 = 24.0 ,R2 = 2.5 , and V = 45 .) 24 R2 (a) Find the current in each resistor of the figure above by using the rules for resistors in series and parallel. 2.5 24.0 24 b) write three independent equations or the three currents using K cho s laws one with the node e a second in the oo ru e rough the batter the 2.5- resistor, and the 24.0-Q resistor; and the third using the loop rule through the 24.0 and 24.0 resistors. Solve to check the answers found in part (a). (Submit a file with a maximum size of 1 MB.) Choose File no file selected

Explanation / Answer

total circuit resistance = 1/(1/24 + 1/24) + 2.5 = 12 + 2.5 = 14.5 ohm

current through 2.5 ohm = 45/14.5 = 3.103448 A

current through 24 ohm = (45/14.5)x24/(24 + 24) = 1.551724 A

current through 24 ohm = (45/14.5)x24/(24 + 24) = 1.551724 A

b)

i) I2 = I1 + I24

ii) I2R2 + I24(24) = 45

iii) I1R1 = I24(24)
