Question
There are three stages of prenatal development. They are the germinal stage, embryonic stage, and the fetal stage of development. All of these stages play an important role in the growth and development of human beings. The zygote (germinal) stage of fetal development is when we are in the process of becoming one cell. A sperm enters the membrane of the ovum, which is the female reproductive cell. The two gametes fuse, becoming one cell, which is called the zygote. “During the germinal stage, the first and shortest stage of the prenatal period, the zygote begins to divide and grow in complexity” (Feldman, 2015). Sometimes during the zygomatic stage, a multiple birth can occur, which can result in twins or even more. This stage lasts from fertilization until just 2 weeks. During this stage, the placenta forms and plays a very vital role in fetal brain development. The next stage of fetal development is the embryonic stage, which lasts from weeks 2-8. At the end of week 2, the organism is secured to the wall of the mom’s uterus. We call the child an embryo at this stage, hence the “embryonic stage.” During this time, major important changes take place, such as the growth and development of major organs. The ectoderm, endoderm, and mesoderm layers are formed, all of which each play their own important role individually. Also, during this stage, the head and brain undergo rapid growth. The last stage of fetal development is called the fetal stage and lasts from 8 weeks up until the birth of the child. “It is not until the final period of prenatal development, the fetal stage, that the developing child becomes easily recognizable” (Feldman, 2015). By this time, major organs can be differentiated and it is appropriate to call the organism a fetus. Rapid changes are happening during this last stage of development and height and weight are substantially increasing. The fetus can kick, hiccup, cry, and even suck its thumb while inside the mother’s womb during this final stage of development. During the end of the fetal period, brain waves show that the fetus experiences different stages of sleep. They can even hear sounds and feel vibrations! The stages of fetal development are pretty amazing. It is crazy to think that tiny little cells can come together and in just a few short hours can form something amazing! No two fetuses, babies, or even adults are the same and we all have different genetic traits and characteristics that help to make us who we are. It is important to take care of ourselves during this time of fetal development to ensure that the infant is provided with a healthy environment to spend its first 9 months of life!
WHAT DO YOU AGREED OR HOW WOULD COMMENT ON THIS PASSAGE?
Explanation / Answer
Yes I agreed. Here all the given information are absolutely right and very much informative about fetal development. This passage make us feel that we should take care ourselves during fetal development to provide healthy environment to developing fetal. The effect of environmental conditions will have direct effect on the baby health even after birth.
