Question
You did a second experiment where you filled a number of dialysis bags with solutions containing varying concentrations of sucrose. You then placed the bags into beakers containing two different concentration of the sucrose solution. The data table below shows the experimental set up:Bag Solution in the bag Solution in the beaker
A 1% sucrose 25% sucrose
B 1% sucrose 1% sucrose
C 10% sucrose 1% sucrose
D 25% sucrose 1% sucrose
a) For each of the dialysis bags, predict whether they should gain or lose mass. Explain why?
b) For the dialysis bags that gain mass, which will gain mass the fastest? Explain why?
c) For each of the dialysis bags, apply the terms hypertonic, hypotonic or isotonic to the solution in the bag and in the beaker.
Explanation / Answer
Hope you understand this. Everything needs to be isotonic basically, which is like neutral concentration. The 1% to 1% sucrose is isotonic, therefore it will not gain or lose mass. You should be able to answer the others. :) Good luck!!!
