Question

A uniform electric field with a magnitude of 5750 N/C points in the positive x direction.
Part A)
Find the change in electric potential energy when a +12.5 muC
charge is moved 6.50 cm in the positive x direction.
Part B)
Find the change in electric potential energy when a +12.5-mu { m{C}}
charge is moved 6.50 cm in the negative x direction.
Part C)
Find the change in electric potential energy when a +12.5-mu { m{C}}
charge is moved 6.50 cm in the positive y direction.

delta U= ? Joules (for all three)

Explanation / Answer

Uniform electric field E= 5750 along +X

A ) Change in electric potential energy, is the work done to move charge against the field,

So U = -W = -F.d = - q (E.d)

= 12.5*10-6 *(5750 * 6.5*10-2) = 4.672*10-3 J

B)

U = -W = -F.d = - q (E.(-d))

= 12.5*10-6 *(5750 * -6.5*10-2) = - 4.672*10-3 J

C)   U = -W = -F.d = - q (E.(-d)) =0, Since electric field direction is perpenticular to the movment
