Question
A compact disk on a CD player rotates clockwise. The disk completes one revolution in 0.254 s.(a) Find the angular velocity of the disk.
magnitude __________
direction __________
(b) Find the speed of a point on the disk 4.44 cm from the axis of rotation.
___________
For A: I know the direction is clockwise so the magnitude for the angular velocity is negative. I tried (2*pi)/0.254 s = -24.72 rev/s but it is wrong. I also attempted to use the same number but positive rather than negative and still got the answer wrong.
For B: I know that you use the equation velocity=radius*angular velocity but I have to figure out the angular velocity first.
Explanation / Answer
angular velocity=revolutions/time=1/.254=-3.93rev/sec speedat point 4.44 cm=2*pie*3.93rad/sec*4.44=1.09m/sec
