Question
A transverse sinusoidal wave on a string has a period T = 33.0 ms and travels in the negative x direction with a speed of 30.0 m/s. At t = 0, a particle on the string atx = 0 has a transverse position of 2.00 cm and is traveling downward with a speed of 4.50 m/s. What is the amplitude of the wave? What is the phase constant? What is the maximum transverse speed of the string? Write the wave function for the wave. (Use the form . Round all coefficients to three significant figures.) The sound intensity at a distance of 18 m from a noisy generator is measured to be 0.22 W/m2. What is the sound intensity at a distance of 27 m from the generator?Explanation / Answer
3) solution:
r1 = 18m, I1 = 0.22 W/m^2
r2 = 27 m, find I2
I*4(pi)*r^2 = constant
so I1*r1^2 = I2*r2^2
==> I2 = I1 * (r1/r2)^2 = 0.22 * (18/27)^2 = 0.097 W/m^2
