Question
5.0 kg object undergoes an acceleration of 1.5 m/s2.(a) What is the magnitude of the resultant force acting on it?
1 N
(b) If this same force is applied to a 5.0 kg object, what acceleration is produced?
2 m/s2
Explanation / Answer
(a) Newton #2 tells us F = m*a Fillin for m = 5 kg and a = 1,5 m/s^2 --> F = 5*1,5 = 7,5 N (I don't see how to get 1N, if that is supposed to be the answer). (b) I hope you made a typo and mean to give another mass rather than 5, which we used in (a). The answer is evidently the same now using the same law F = ma --> a = F/m = 7,5/5 = 1,5 m/s^2. If the answer is supposed to be 2m/s^2 (next time please give us some more information about what that really is), then the mass you meant should have been m = 7,5/2 = 3,75 kg.. Hope this helps you out, gl
