Question

We completed a cell and molecular lab where we isolated mitochondria from pea pods to observe the biochemical reaction between dehydrogenases and tetrazolium. We had to constantly keep the pea pod homogenate on ice. Why was keeping it on ice important? We completed a cell and molecular lab where we isolated mitochondria from pea pods to observe the biochemical reaction between dehydrogenases and tetrazolium. Explanation / Answer

Keeping on ice was necessary because when enzymes are involved in experiments it is better to keep them on ice so that their 3D structure remains intact because three dimensional structure is the key feature of enzyme and keeping it on ice prevents weak forces like hydrogen and intramolecular forces from breaking so that enzyme doesn't loose its function.
