Question

Below is a life table for a population. These data are for females only. Age (months) Offspring (# per individua Survivorshi (individuals) 100000 1000 200 100 50 30 0 Proportion surviving to age X 0.001 0.0001 0.00008 0.00005 0.00001 0 4 8,000 0 a) From just looking at the table, what type of survivorship curve do you think these species has (Type I, Type II, or Type III)? Why? (hint: you may want to roughly sketch the survivorship curve to help you visualize the data) b) Is this species more likely to be a small lizard, a clown fish, or a butterfly? Why?

Explanation / Answer

a)The survivership of the species according to the given details is Type III.The graph plotted is concave in Ishape. The juveniles with high mortality and low adult mortality.Organisms like small fishes and invertibrates comes under Type III survivalship curve.

b)The given details are of clown fish. The clown fishes layes thousand of egg from which only 1/4 of the eggs haches and reach upto adulthood.

c)The Niche is the the roll of organism in the habitat or surrounding, also postulated as occupation of organism. As the Niche of the two species merges the need and interaction of the species with the surrounding overlaps. This results in competition for survival. It leads to the survival of the strong and competent species which is superior to the other oragnism resulting in depletion of weak species from ecosystem.

The realized niche is the alternate habitat in which species are made to adapt due to competition in its fundamental niche.Competition are very less in realized niche because the weaker species finds another option to survive without competing by changing the food habita and rsources.

d) species richness-It is the abundance of different species present in a ecosystem.(The population of varieties of butterfies in the area)

Species eveness-The balanced population of more than one species in a ecosystem is refer to eveness.(The even population of two species of butterflies in a particular area)
