Question
A 625 kg woman climbs a staircase that rises at 48 degrees above the horizontal and is 4.25 m long. Her speed is a constant 40.0 cm/s .a)How much has the gravitational potential energy increased by her climbing the stairs?
b)How much work has gravity done on her as she climbed the stairs?
both answers must be in joules.please explain i need help
Explanation / Answer
a) the enrgy gained by the lady = change in her potential energy = m*g*h here given m= 62.5 (u wrote 625!!!! plz clarify) h= 4.25*sin(48) => E = 62.5*9.81*sin(48)*4.25 = 1936.47 j b) the work done by the gravity = -1936.47 J (negative since the force is in the opposite direction to the displacement)
