Question
An electron is accelerated from rest through a potential difference of 501V inside an electron gun. This electron gun happens to be located inside a Helmholtz coil (R = 50cm, N = 101). At the moment the electron is launched, the Helmholtz coil has a current of 1.2A passing through it and is oriented so that the magnetic field it generates points in the positive z-direction (out of page). If the electron is launched at an angle at an angle of 45o between positive x-direction and positive z-direction, then qualitatively describe this path in three dimensions. Where would your work in part (b) have to change? In what way would your final answer be affected?
Explanation / Answer
at this case electron has some initial speed in both axes x and z. the final speed in x direction will be greater than in previous question, this will affect the radius. It will also be bigger. Speed in z direction will not change. So, the electron will be moving in spiral movement around z axis.
