Question

These 2 problems are connected to each other. Please provide solution besides just the answers, thank you. Will rate lifesaver for right answers

1. The transformer in a stereo ampli?er has a primary coil with 200 turns and a secondary coil with 40 turns. When the primary coil is supplied with 120-V AC, what voltage does the secondary coil provide?

2. If the average current passing through the secondary coil of the transformer in above exercise is 10 A, what average current is passing through the primary coil?

Explanation / Answer

a)

V2 = (N2/N1)*V1 = (40/200) * 120 = 24 V

b)

In an ideal transformer, where there are no losses, the power I1*V1 supplied by the generator is equal to the power I2*V2 in the secondary circuit. That is,

I1 V1 = I2 V2

I1 * 120 = 10 * 24 >>> I1 = 2 A
