Question

An ammeter is an instrument that shows how much current passes through it. It is designed to have a small resistance. The following problems show why.

B. Suppose instead the ammeter were in series with the resistor as shown in the figure at the bottom.

- If the system is connected up to a 12 V battery, how much current would pass through the meter?

- How much current would pass through the 50 ? resistor? Is this ammeter giving a good measure of the current in the 50 ? resistor? Explain why or why not.

- Is this ammeter giving a good measurement of what the current would be in the resistor if the ammeter weren't there?

Explanation / Answer

Answr

as we know that from circuit analysis that the current of any element or device remain constant

in seriese with the source there fore the current measuring devices are connected in seriese with the

source.

also the internal resistance of the device is very small as per design requiment.

then

I = V/R = 12/50.5 = 0.237

ITS A good measure because if ignoring the resistance of the battery and ammeter then the exact answer will be = 0.24.

which has very little difference with the actual answer.
