The figure shows the spectral absorptivity and reflectivity of a white emulsion paint, measured in the direction perpendicular to the surface. Using Table 12.2 in your notes, and making all necessary assumptions, show that white paint is an effective solar-radiation reflector and a good emitter of terrestrial radiation. Discuss the advantages of using such a paint for buildings in desert climates. Consider the sun to be a black body with a surface temperature of 5800 K and the average terrestrial surface temperature to be 300 K. Ice core samples taken from deep glaciers on the Antarctic continent suggest that the onset of ages occur very rapidly, with rapid atmospheric cooling. The figure shows snow's normal spectral absorptivity and reflectivity. Use the data from this figure and Table 12.2 to suggest a possible reason for this rapid climate change when the onset of global cooling begins.

a) Advantages of using solar reflected paint for building in desert climate

i. solar reflected paint cools the roof and walls of the building by reflecting the incident sun beam at the surface of building.

ii. It saves energy since temperature of the building is maintained no air condition is required.

b) Reason for rapid climate change in global cooling

i. The solar reflected paint reflects solar beam but due to thermal exchange of heat the temperature changes in building

ii. windows of the building allows the cool air to come inside which causes decrease in temperature.
