Question
Consider a buck converter operating at a switching frequency, f = 200 KHz, and suppose we wish to design a Type 2 feedback compensator for this system. The Bode plot the open loop transfer function G_P (S), of the PWM - switch-filter - load sections of the converter is shown in the following figure. a) What is the phase margin of the open loop system, G_P(S)? b) Using your engineering judgment, please pick a new gain cross-over frequency, omega_infinity, and briefly explain your choice. (c) Determine the extra gain and phase angle to be provided by the compensator, G_c (S), to realize a phase margin of 50 degree.Explanation / Answer
SOLUTION :A) as clearly visible from the graph ,
at gain cross over frequency,phase margin= (-180 + 122.5 ) degrees
=-57.5 degrees
B)pick any gain cross over frequency and determaine the same as above
C) compensated angel =( 112.5 + 50 ) degrees= 165.5 degrees
in order to compensate ,we have to add a pole to open loop transfer function at s=0.that means type of the system is increased by one .
