Question
People who have studied MS or PhD degree in Electrical engineering
How do or did you study??
Do you have your own insights or knowhows on how to studying efficiently?
I graduated with Electrical engineering BS and planning to pursuing MS degree in the US
And after I got out from undergrad, I completely lost how I could start studying the subjects.. and honestly I felt some professors left out the students more confused and wanted to get by with the classes without actually teaching the classes or just giving ridiculously hard questions to get the grade distributions, because there will be always students ace the classes without learning from the lectures or from professors
I am not one of those students always aced the classes and failed some classes couple of times, because of those issues
I tried to solve lots of problems, took decent notes, watched youtubes.. but it seems this is not good enough for me..
I have seen students missed half of the class days still aced the classes
I heard there are lots of students share the old exams and other references keep it for themselves
And I am afraid it would be hard to pass the classes when I start doing MS because I heard there will be lots of students from middle asia or other countries usually keep the important or valuable references for themselves..
I also heard there some people use third party to do the projects and etc.. and I am afraid I will be left out in the class
Please gvie me some real tips and guidances if you have studied MS of PhD in EE
I want to know more and further develop my knowledge in EE or related field of studying.. but I can't seem get the real grasp or know how to fishing...
Please explain how you study in general for the classes or subjects in EE in the US for MS PhD
Do you first solve the problems? and read the chapters if you don't understand, then try watch you tubes if you don't understand it?
Do you discuss your coleagues about how you could knock down the exams and plan out?
What are your steps or methods of studying? What tools (Chegg, old references, etc) have you used?
What made you achieved MS and PhD?
Please tell me the methods you have used when you studied, (chegg, old references, corporating with colleagues, or old references, etc)
PLEASE GIVE ME THE REAL TIPS, EXPERIENCES AND ADVICE, NOT LIKE SOME GENERAL TALKS OR PHILOSOPHIC STATEMENTS ETC..
I WANT REAL ADVICE FROM YOU IF YOU HAVE STUDIED MS OR PHD
Explanation / Answer
Hi,
As an electrical engineering PhD student, i pursued theoretical and empirical studies in a topic area determined by my interests and those of my faculty research advisor.
I agree with almost all of the points made above, but I want to emphasize one piece of advice: Get practical experience and start it early.
On the undergraduate side, many times students will focus all on the theory (mostly because it is very hard on its own and requires a lot of study), but then when they are thrown into a lab where they have to use that theory to develop or debug a circuit, they're clueless.
Outside of college, practical experience is necessary in order to get a good job after you've completed your degree.
In my case, I landed a job with a great company almost purely because I did research during my undergraduate education. Practical experience will give you something to talk about with potential employers at length and give them an opportunity to see how you would actually perform in a job.
One most important thing that i wana tell you that if some professors are doing so nonsense things, my advice is to just focus on your own studies and do many practical things related to your subject. It will help you a lot.The real world is very different from college; there is no right answer to anything like there is on a test. No one is sitting there with a key grading your work. Applying your knowledge in some way will get you used to this sort of design process.
In my undergrad time, one professor is very nice , very helpfull , he gave me advice to go for phd and all. Then i had decided to do so.
During my preparation, i am focussing in doing maximum different problems repeatdly so that i can just gain all the knowledge about that particular subject.
I normally reffered the electrical engineering books likeDr. Yogesh Singh Chauhan, Department of Electrical Engineering, Circuit theory, Chua, Desoer and Kuh, “Linear and Nonlinear Circuits”, McGraw-Hill, 1987, Gray & Meyer’s “Analysis and Design of Analog Integrated Circuits” and i always collects question from our professors and solve those question.
Atlast i wana give you some advice if you wana join phd-
Get involved with as many clubs as possible. IEEE, society for engineers, most campus have tons of things going on.
Meet people. This correlates to get involved but don't limit yourself to just students. Most professors are more than willing to help with questions you have or point you to someone who can help.
Fail often, fail fast. You should already know this but very rarely is your first attempt at something going to work flawlessly.
The quicker you fail the quicker you get to something that works.
Thats it and i hope these advice may help you to decide whether you join for phd or not.
And all the best for your future buddy
