Question

A single rectangular loop of wire with the width 0.2m is situated so that part of it is inside a region of a uniform magnetic field of 0.5T. and the other part of the rectangular loop of wire is outside of this field. the total resistance of the loop is 0.3 ohms. calculate the force required to pull the loop from the field to the right at a constant velocity of 2m/s. *pardon for the bad drawing but what it's supposed to indicate is that the left portion of this rectangular loop of wire is in this magnetic field where as the right portion is not. -------------------------- | x x | | | x x x | | | x x x | | --------------------------

Explanation / Answer

the induced emf will be Blv where B= magnetic field; l = length of rod and v= velocity

Blv = 0.5*0.2*2 = 0.2 volts

resistance = 0.3 ohms

current = 0.2/0.3 = 0.67amperes

force = current*B*l = 0.67*0.5*0.2 = 0.067N

the final answer is 0.067N
