Question
gasoline vapors are vented to the atmosphere when an underground gasoline storage tank is filled. if the tanker truck discharges into the top of the tank with no vapor control (the splash fill method), the emission of gasoline vapors is estimated to be 2.75kg/m^3 of gasoline delivered tpo the tank. if the tank is equipped with a pressure relief vale and interlocking hose connection and the tanker truck discharges into the bottom of the tank below the surface of the gasoline in the storage tank the emission of gasoline vapors is estimated to be 0.095kg/m^3 of gasoline delivered. assume that the service station must refill the tank with 4.00m^3 of gasoline vapor in kg/yr for the splash fill method. estimate the value of the fuel that is captured if the vapor control system is used. assume the density of the condensed vapor is 8.00 g/mLand the cost of thegasoline is $1.06 per liter
Explanation / Answer
Some of the wording is a little confusing but
Gas saved = (2.75 - .095) kg/m^3 = 2.655 kg/m^3
Gas saved = (2.655 kg/m^3 * 1000 gm/kg) / ( 8 gm / (mL * .001 L/mL))
Gas saved = .332 L / m^3
Value = .332 L / m^3 * 1.06 L = $0.35 /m^3
So it looks like the savings would be 35 cents per meter^3 of
gas delivered - I am unable to understand the volume delivered
per year from the wording of the problem
