Question
A slide is projected through a lens and produces the image shown below on the screen. Slide Lens Screen Image as it appears on screen without card in front of lens Describe briefly the effect on the image when an opaque card is placed just in front of the lens so that it covers (a) the lower half of the lens, (b) the top half of the lens, (c) the left half of the lens, (d) the right half of the lens, and (c) if the card has a circular hole of diameter equal to 1/4 the diameter of the lens and is placed with the hole in front of the lens and centered on it.Explanation / Answer
since its a concave lens or converging lens the rays from bottom incident parallelly on lens and produce images top side and vice versa for slides top side incident parallelly on lens and produce image's bottom portion and similar case with right and left side incident drays i.e. right side slides produce on left side of image and left side slide produce right side image . so when lens is blocked by opaque object in certaain portion those rays wont formr image which results in partial image . and in hole case all the rays incident from slide from that circle region forms image remaining are obstructed by card so they doesnt form object which results in hole sized image on screen . assuming all these parallel incidences.
a lower half image can be seen
b . upper half image can be seen
c . left side of image can seen
d . right side of image can be seen .
e .Image with a diameter equal to card hole centered same as lens can be seen
