When the switch is placed in position 1, the measured current in the battery is 1.26 mA. What is the value of each resistor? When the switch is placed in position 2, what is the current flowing out of the battery? When the switch is open (neither in position 1 or position 2), what is the current flowing out of the battery?.

Explanation / Answer

a) when switch is at 1, Current Flows through R1 and R4

Therefore, Equivalent resistance = R + R = 2R

V = 5.11 V and I = 1.26 mA

5.11 = 1.26 * 10^(-3) * 2R

R = 2027.778 ohms

b) When switch is at 2, Current Flows through R1 , R2 and R3

Then Equivalent Resistance = 3R

I = 5.11/(3*2027.778) = 0.8399 mA

c) When switch is completely open , Current flows through R1 , R2 and R4

Then also , Equivalent Resistance = 3R

I will be same as previous which is equal to 0.8399 mA
