Explanation / Answer

Solutions.

A) A genetically modified organism (GMO) is one that has had its genetic material altered by means that are not natural like mating or natural recombination (including conventional breeding). GMOs includes plants, animals or microorganisms. Genetic modification allows selected individual genes to be transferred from one organism into another, and also between species that are not related to each other. GM food can also be produced using this genetic modification techniques. Production GMOs or GM foods are the area of interest in Recombinant DNA technology which is also called Genetic engineering.

B) Flavr savr tomatoes and Golden rice are two GMOs having a good use of technology.

Flavr savr tomatoes are produced in such a kind that they increase the shelf life of the tomatoes while Golden rice contain daffodil genes which are responsible for more production of Beta-carotene (help in production of Vitamin-A) in rice making them to be a healthy choice.

C) Bt-cotton and GM-Potato are some examples which imposes risk to biodiversity and human health.

Bt-cotton produces endotoxins which when eaten by any insect will kill them. As it has a good use of pest-control without using pesticide but it eliminates all the insects that are not specifically targeted to kill and hence reduces the diversity. GM-Potato (developed for pest resistance) may cause allergy to human or it can cause antibiotic resistance.

D) If i can develop a GMO, it would be a GM-plant which is very helpful in phytoremediation. I would insert such genes in the plant genome that it can effectively extract heavy metals from soil, ultimately reducing soil pollution.
