Question
A very small steel marble is shown rolling at a constant speed on a horizontal table. The marble leaves the table at L, falls, and hits the ground at P. This is illustrated in the diagram below which is drawn to scale. Calculate the time it took the marble to travel from M to P.
A very small steel marble is shown rolling at a constant speed on a horizontal table. The marble leaves the table at L, falls, and hits the ground at P. This is illustrated in the diagram below which is drawn to scale. Calculate the time it took the marble to travel from M to P.Explanation / Answer
well if M is the initial point from where it starts its motion then :
time taken by marbel to reach from M to L = t1 = (distance / speed)
if this distance is l and constant speed is u , then
t1 = l/u
and time taken to reach from L to P = t2 = sqrt(2*H/g)
where H is the height of L from P
total time = t = t1 + t2 = l/u + sqrt(2*H/g)
