so lets do the block first the block will feel two forces in the x direction F- friction = ma and two in the y N - mg = 0 so friction = uN = u mg so 100-u mg = ma 100 - 0.4*10*9.81=10a so a=6.1 m/s^2 now for the slab it only feels the friction force we know from part a that friciton = 0.4*10*9.81 so 0.4*10*9.81=40a a=0.98
