Case 1:
By looking at the witness statements, Cold Colonel is suffering from Hypothyroidism, and of course there seems to be malfunctioning of Thyroid gland.
Hypothyroidism is characterized with extremely low thyroid hormone levels, either as a result of direct or indirect effect on the thyroid gland. The thyroid gland works to maintain body temperature, muscle strength and energy. In this endocrine condition, they thyroid gland under produces certain hormones (TSH, T3, T4) and since the thyroid gland regulates how the body uses energy if there isn't enough hormones for the body to use, bodily functions begin to slow down.
For the body not being able to heat, cells not replicating at a normal pace, or timely digestion of food causes lack of energy and hence fatigue and so Colonel was reluctant to do much of anything. Increased TSH can result if the pt becomes hypothyroid post-op & is not receiving Thyroid Hormone Replacement, but this is not an immediate problem.
Since the TSH levels are drastically high, the major symptoms will be:
· Fatigue.
· Weakness.
· Weight gain or increased difficulty losing weight.
· Coarse, dry hair.
· Dry, rough pale skin.
· Hair loss.
· Cold intolerance
· Muscle cramps and frequent muscle aches.
CASE 2:
Primarily, listening to the symptoms of bloated Mrs. Blank, we can somehow think that she has the disease called Lipoma. A lipoma is a growth of fatty tissue that slowly develops under the skin. They can form on any part of the body, but they typically appear on the:
They’re classified as benign growths, or tumors, of fatty tissue. Thus a lipoma isn’t cancerous and is rarely harmful.
But another cause can be Cushing disease. Individuals with Cushing disease can develop a hump on their upper back caused by abnormal deposits of fat.
But the most strong cause that I think is Arthritis.
Prednisone is a synthetic corticosteroid drug that is particularly effective as an immunosuppressant drug. It is used to treat certain inflammatory diseases, some autoimmune diseases, and some types of cancer, but it has significant adverse effects.
Prednisone is primarily prescribed to treat arthritis, blood disorders, breathing problems, severe allergies, skin diseases, and immune system disorders. Prednisone belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids.
One of the major side effects of this drug is Bloating and so the lady appears bloated. Thus the finding is justified.
The drugs that are similar to prednisone with lesser side effects are:
· Medrol (methylprednisolone)
· dexamethasone (dexamethasone)
· prednisolone acetate (prednisolone acetate)
· Cortef (hydrocortisone)
Hence this can be prescribed for diagnosis.
