Question
Researchers maintained ducks on a low (0.018%, open circles in the graph), normal (0.4%, closed circles in the graph) or high (1.9%, open triangles in the graph) sodium diet for 8 days and measured changes in aldosterone and corticoster right). A) What influence did the sodium treatment have on aldosterone and corticosterone levels across the 8 days (4 pts)? B) Is this what you would have predicted would have happened to aldosterone levels (4 pts)? Why or why not (4 pts)? Be sure to explain your rationale. 8. Is (see figure to the A Low Fig. 1. Changes in aldosterone and corticosterone levels in ducks over 8 days that were exposed to low (open circles), normal (dark circles), or high (open triangles) sodium dietsExplanation / Answer
Aldosterone and Chorticosterone are hormones secreted by cortex part of adrenal gland present in the upper region of Kidney. The cortex region is composed of two types of tissues called zona glomeruloa and zona fasciculata.
Zona glomerulosa secrete aldosterone and zona fasciculata secretes Chorticosterone.
Aldosterone control mineral balnce(Mineralocorticoids)-Hormone take part in the regulation of salt excretion to maintain blood pressure.
Chorticosterone control glucose metabolism(Glucocorticoids)-Hormone helps in maintaine body mechanism during stress by boosting blood glcose level.
In the present research work,Ducks are subjected to three different dietery plan for 8 days.
A)Low sodium diet(0.018%).
B)Normal sodium diet(0.4%).
C)High sodium diet (1.9%).
At the end of the 8th days the aldosterone and chorticosterone level in the blood is evaluated.
After studying the given plotted graph I could make out that,Aldosterone concentration increases in the duck with depleted dietry sodium, slightly lower in normal dietry sodium and reduced in higher dietry sodium.
There was no much effect in Chortocosterone concentration in any trio cases.
Alteration in Aldostrone concentration in body helps in carrying out homeostasis adaptation in organism with depleted or excess electrolyte.nin an
Mechanism called Renin angiotensin system is responsible for the hyper secretion of Aldostrone during sodium depletion.Depletion in salt cause lower electrolyte balance, lower blood pressure and lower ECF values.
a)It trigger secretion of RENIN from zona glomerulosa from adrenal gland.
b)RENIN inetract with the protein called Angiotensinogen which is secreted from liver.
c)RENIN cleaves the peptide bond of Angiotensinogen to form Aldosterone I.
D)Aldosterone I is converted to Aldosterone II by enzyme called Angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE).
E)Aldosterone II stimulate zona glomerulosa cells to produce high amount of Aldosterone.
F)Results in reabsorbtion of Na+ from the distal convoluted tubule causing increase ECF volume.
