Question

A diverging lens (f = -12 cm) is located 20.0 cm to the left of a converging lens (f = 35.0 cm). A 3.00 cm tall object stands to the left of the diverging lens, exactly at its focal point. (a) Determine the distance of the final image relative to the converging lens.
1           ??cm

(b) What is the height of the final image (including proper algebraic sign)?
2           ??cm (a) Determine the distance of the final image relative to the converging lens.
1           ??cm

(b) What is the height of the final image (including proper algebraic sign)?
2           ??cm

Explanation / Answer

1/12 + 1/S' = -1/12

S1' = -6cm

S2 = 20+6 = 26cm

1/26 + 1/s2' = 1/35

1)s2' = -101.11 cm towards the left of the converging lens

2) y'/y = m1*m2 = (s1'/s1)*(s2'/s2) = (6/12)*(101.11/26)

y' = 5.833 cm
