Question

I'm just a bit unsure about what is meant by,

'Plot the engine output power as a function of engine speed'.

I have the equations and constants and everything, it's just how to do the plot.

Am I supposed to have say 0 to 100 along the bottom for the engine speed and put that number(engine speed) into the engine out put equation along the y axis and thats the plot or am I supose to do something different.

This is what I currently have, if you know if this is what it should look like please tell me but if your unsure, thats fine:

Just so you know, the x axis lable should be engine speed in rpm.

Just to make sure you understand that main part of my question is what is meant by the statement given above in quotes.

Thanks

10-Engine Output Power as a Function of Engine Speed 12 10 6 0 -4 -8 10 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 Road Speed of Vehicle (m/s)

Explanation / Answer

In the given plot, the plot shows the variation of engine power Vs vehicle on-road speed i.e in m/sec. It can be seen that the engine power is low at very low on-road speed and very high on-road speed. And the power is maximum in middle on-road speed (30-50 m/s).

However, in the question, it is asked to correlate the engine power with the engine speed i.e engine speed in rpm (revolution per minute). To convert the vehicle on-road speed to engine rpm speed, you must be given certain parameters for the same surely.

You must be having equations/formula for converting the vehicle on-road speed to engine rpm speed. Once you have the engine rpm, then you may plot the engine power Vs engine rpm profile.

Just be clear that the it is engine speed (rpm) that has to be on x-axis.
