Explanation / Answer
Seed viability is affected by availability of moisture. Microwaving for shorter duration provide the enough heat to open the germ pores of the seed coat which in turn allow the enter of water into the seeds and to begin the process of germintation. However, microwaving for longer duration makes the water present in the seeds to boil leading to drying of the seeds. These seeds do not germinate even in presence of water.
