QUESTION #1
A.) Calculate the torque (magnitude and direction) about the front support post (B) of a diving board(Figure 1) , exerted by a 53
kg person 3.0 m from that post.
B.) clockwise or counterclockwise?
Question #2
Three children are trying to balance on a seesaw, which consists of a fulcrum rock, acting as a pivot at the center, and a very light board 4.1m long(Figure 1) . Two playmates are already on either end. Boy A has a mass of 50 kg, and girl B a mass of 35 kg.
Where should girl C, whose mass is 25 kg, place herself so as to balance the seesaw?

Two playmates are already on either end. Boy A has a mass of 50 kg, and girl B a mass of 35 kg. Where should girl C, whose mass is 25 kg, place herself so as to balance the seesaw?Explanation / Answer
torque = 3*530 = 1590 N-m
clockwise
2.
It will be assumed that Girl C will be on the right side of the seesaw (same side as Girl B) to balance the seesaw.
Let
x = distance from the center of the seesaw where Girl C will be positioned.
Take summation of moments about the center of the seesaw. Since the system is in equilibrium, the summation of moments will be equal to zero. Hence,
50(2.05) = 25(x) + 35(2.05)
Simplifying the above,
25x = 30.75
x = 30.75/25
x = 1.23 m
Girl C should be positioned at 1.23 m from the center of the seesaw.
