Explanation / Answer
Method -
Females were taken as participants for being a subject for testosterone administration. Females were included , since men already have testosterone and administering a single dose of testosterone in males wouldn't show much difference. The age group was 18-50. Some more criterias were taken care of such as no medications, no illnesses , no neurological conditions etc . It was taken care that 14 women used single phase contraceptives, whereas 10 had normal menstrual cycles .
Testosterone administration
Double blind, randomised , placebo controlled - meaning - placebo , an inactive drug or treatment that is present in a clinical trial where , placebo can also be considered as a control or a control group.
Randomized trial - people are randomly distributed t receive either of the clinical treatments. They might either be placed in the control or treatment group randomly.
Double blind trial - here , neither the researcher or the patients are aware of the treatment that they would be getting . They are given specific code numbers which are allocated to the specific groups.
Approach avoidance task and Social phobia and anxiety inventory
There has been a causal relationship observed between testosterone administration and certain emotional and anxiety related behaviours. Administration reduces fear reflexes and increases avoidance of fear and threat. The approach avoidance task was done so as to check the reaction of the participants with respect to the emotions , before and after testosterone administration. And results were noted .
