Question
Consider the following figure. (Assume V = 10 V,R1 = 2.1 ?, and R2 = 0.4 ?.)
I1=Your response is within 10% of the correct value. This may be due to roundoff error, or you could have a mistake in your calculation. Carry out all intermediate results to at least four-digit accuracy to minimize roundoff error. A I2= A I3=
Your response differs from the correct answer by more than 10%. Double check your calculations. A Consider the following figure. (Assume V = 10 V, R1 = 2.1 ?, and R2 = 0.4 ?.) Can the circuit shown above be reduced to a single resistor connected to the batteries? Explain. Calculate each of the unknown currents I1, I2, and I3 for the circuit.
Explanation / Answer
1) Equations :
I3 = I1 - I2
24 - 2.1*I1 - 4* I1 - 3*(I1-I2) = 0
24 = 9.1*I1 - 3*I2 .....(1)
V - 3*(I2-I1) - 0.4*I2 - 5*I2 = 0
10 - 8.4*I2 + 3*I1 = 0
10 = -3*I1 + 8.4*I2 .....(2)
Solving (1) and (2)
we get
I1 = 3.434 A
I2 = 2.417 A
I3 = I1- I2 = 1.017 A
