Question

I attempted these calculations using the equation max bending stress = - [ (bending normal strain)*(elastic modulus)*(c) ] / y. If I am right in my assumptions/calculations, I got that y = 25 mm. c = 35 mm. I got a max bending stress for material 1 of 8122.13 ksi and a max bending stress of material 2 of 2842.74 ksi. Please let me know if any part is correct or if I completely misunderstood/went in wrong direction. Thanks!

6.27 A composite beam cross section is shown in Figure 6.27. The bending normal strain at point A due to bending about the z axis was found to be £ -200 The modulus of elasticity of the two mater als are El = 200 GPa, E = 70 GPa Determine the maximum bending stress in each of the two materials -50mm E 10 mm 50 mm 0 mm Figure P6.27 10 mm

Explanation / Answer

first of all calculate the momento of inertia of total beam and then apply bending equation M/I=SIGMA/Y=E/R by using this formula u can calculate the value of maximum bending stress.
