I am being asked to prepare multiple ratios. For example, "prepare the ratio of cost of materials to total manufacturing cost. The cost of materials is $983,860 while the manufacturing cost is $2,038,150."

Do I take 983,860 divided by 2,038,150 - for the answer of ".5" OR the opposite for the answer of "2.0"?

Please provide the correct way to divide these when instructed to find ratios of " ___ to ____".

Any websites that help explain your answer would be greatly appreciated. If I miss one of these, it can ruin the entire table of ratios so I just want to be sure I am calculating them correctly! :)
