Urbanization means redistribution of population from rural to urban life. It involves the emergence of new towns and cities and more people attracted towards employment opportunities. Urbanization in America in the late 1800s along with industrial revolution hence workers moved towards manufacturing units in towns and cities probing for work in factories as agricultural labor was common. The phases of first and second industrialization led to new innovations and techniques involved in production and manufacturing which led to a demand for more skilled and unskilled labor. Commercialization played a major role in expanding urbanization. The positive effects of Urbanization included the creation of employment, infrastructure advancement, transportation, improved standard of living. The negative effects are as; housing problems as a huge amount of rural population moved to urban settlement, there was unemployment as a requirement for skilled labor was a priority, there were slums build around the cities and improper sanitation was a common problem.
