2. This 54 year old male NIDDM, on regular insulin, was admitted complaining of chest pain. He only seemed to get relief when he was sitting. He also complained of a fever and occasional dyspnoea. An ECG was performed which showed generalised ST and T wave changes. A diagnosis of acute viral pericarditis was made. Viral titres were obtained and this confirmed the presence of echovirus. Patient also suffers from autonomic neuropathy and depression.
