USE THESE DIAGRAMS TO ANSWER THE CONNECTED QUESTIONS!

Normal:

- sample mean:136.3155
- standard deviation:27.27
- sample sizes:187

overweight:
- sample mean: 144.367
- standard deviation:25.0786
- sample sizes:109
Obese:
- sample mean:153.1814
- standard deviation: 27.81397
- sample sizes:204

Using the boxplots and the sample sizes and standard deviations , comment on whether or not it is appropriate to conduct an analysis of variance. WHY OR WHY NOT?

Systotlic BP vs. Weight Groups 0 2 normal, overweight, or obese

Explanation / Answer

The question is trying to examine the assumptions required for an ANOVA test.

The box plots show just a few outliers and some skewness, therefore the normality assumption is in question. But the sample sizes are large and therefore the normality can be assumed. The sample standard deviations are all very similar, so the assumption of equal standard deviations in the population are reasonable.
