Question

In this scenario you find an eight month old infant whose skin is pale, kind of bluish in color (cyanotic). Her arms are moving slightly though. When you try to tap and shout, there is a little more arm motion, very lethargic effort. You do see the chest/abdominal region move very slowly, up and down.

If you find the pulse to be 80 beats per minute, what will you do next?

If you find the respiratory rate to be 7 breaths per minute, what skill will you perform next and for how long?

After you finish this skill, what will you do next?

If you find the vital signs to be, pulse 120 beats per minute and respiration 24 breaths per minute, what will you do? The infant would not really respond this quickly in real life.

Explanation / Answer

1.give chest compressions to the infant if pukse rate is less than 100 bpm.

2.oxygen therapy have to give.observe again, suctioning the mouth.

3.after finishing this, again monitor the patient for pulse and respiration.use artificial ventilation as last measure(positive pressure ventilation)

If the baby become normal, continuous monitoring should needed.check the baby for further complications and assess the other vital organ functions.
