Question

This question is more for my curiousty and I do not know how to obtain the answer. If there is a cube with an area 14mm*14mm*10mm tapped on the tire of your car, what is the force that cube is experiencing when that cube reaches the point where the tire meets the ground as you drive. Not sure what information you need but lets assume a 4500lb car with 20inch wheels. Any other information needed that was not listed can be estimated but please list these estimations such as tire pressure or the area of tire that contacts the ground if any of that even matters.

Please list how you solved using college Dynamics, thank you in advance!

Explanation / Answer

The most simple estimate I can think of is following.

Let M be the mass of the car. If we assume that weight of the car is equally distributed among four tires of the car, then at point of contact, force due to gravity experineced by cube will be Mg/4. This is when the car is stationary.

Let m be the mass of cube. If the car is moving with speed v, and r is the radius of tire, then force experienced by cube will be Mg/4-mv2/r.
