Question

Homework Assign Fat Photo Due Friday Apr 6 name 1. (3) Weed-b-Dead is a pesticide that that stops photophosphorylation and oxygen evolution. If you add the artificial electron acceptor, E-grabber with Weed-b-Dead then oxygen evolution is not stopped. At what site in the photosynthetic pathway would you think that Weed-b-Dead acts? Explain. 2. (3) During the total eclipse this year, photosynthesis stopped in some plants for 2 minutes. Explain what would happen to the levels of Rib-1,5-bP and 3-PG during the eclipse. 3. (4) Fill out the following table: cellular location acyl carrier reductants or oxidants organization of enzymes beta- oxidation Fatty acid synthesis

Explanation / Answer

In the photosynthetic pathways the Weed-b-Dead will inhibit the enzyme which catalyzes to capture the light energy for the splitting up of a water molecule into electron H+ and O2, therefore, photophosphorylation stops and O2 does not evolve, however, if it provides with artificial O2 then the evolution of oxygen will take place.

Since the Rubisco is activated by the ATP produce during the light reaction of the Photosynthesis therefore if the light reaction does not occur then there will be deficiency of ATP and the Rubisco will not activated for the corboxylation therefore there will accumulation of Rubisco at the time of eclipse. The carboxylation of RuBP yields two molecules of 3-PGA, the first stable intermediate in C3photosynthesis. The oxygenation of RuBP results in a molecule of 3-PGA and one of 2-phosphoglycolate. If the rubisco does not carboxylate therefore will not produce 3-PGA. Hence the level of 3-PGA decreseas.
