Question

What is the difference between skin grafts and organic skin constructs in terms of grafting? From what I understand, skin grafts are human skin that is transplanted to another area of the body. The procedure is you take a piece of skin layer from some area and place it where it is needed and hope that the graft will be vascularized and "taken up" before the transplanted tissue dies. However what I dont understand is how synthetic skin constructs work, i know there is a goal to have these synthetic constructs vascularized before applying to the open wound but i dont understand how that would make it anymore efficient, wont they skin construct "die" as well until it is vascularized? Explanation / Answer

Skin graft vascularisation involves precisely regulated regression and replacement of endothelial cells through both angiogenesis and vasculogenesis.

The possibility that the endothelium is surviving allografts may eventually be replaced by cells of Host genotype.
