Question
Home owner and golf courses often use large amounts of pesticide and fertilizer to produce lawns that are of exceptional quality. The products are needed as the lawn is a monoculture of grass and so not a naturally stable ecosystem. Some municipalities are enacting laws to limit the amounts and types of pesticide and fertilizer that can be applied to lawns. The home owners and golf courses see this as an infringement on their civil rights. What reasons could a municipality give to explain why they should have the right to limit the actions of a group of people on their own property?
Explanation / Answer
answer- uses of insectisides and pestisides and used of chemical fertilizer is common practise home lawn and golf courses. they kill harmful plants and insects who damage the other plants. pesticides are two type first is Herbicides which kills harmful plants and other is insecticides which kills harmful insects like grasshopper, nemetods etc. and fungicides which kills fungi. Lawn is considered as monculture of grass which means only single type of grass is cultivated in such region. and yes there should be strict law against the uses of these insectisides and pesticides in lawn and golf courses. Municipality can explain them by folowng way
- these pesticides leeches into graoundwater make them polluted and it is also harmful for the soil cause soil pollution
- by the surface runoff in these area these chemical goes to watershed and polluted the surface water which affect the health of other person. and it will be harmful for the terrestrial ecosystem. It will degrade soil fertality
so its is necessary that there should be some limit in uses of such harmful inecticides and pesticides. We should use organic fertilizer in the place ofthese harmful chemical. organic fertilizer kills the harmful insects as well as these fertilizer are ecofriendly
