Explanation / Answer

Introduction: Since stroke is one of the leading causing causes of death as well as serious disability in US. There are about 6.8 million stroke survivors in US with 795,000 people having a new or recurrent stroke occurs in a year. Because of its high prevalence and functional disability the stroke patients is a cause of burden on families, society and health care systems especially in cases of elderly people having cardiovascular diseases( strokes and other attacks). One of the prominent cause of hospitalization of these patients is stroke. Among these patients, two thirds are 65 or above and half of them are 70 or above years and the numbers of patients will increase in the future

For these patients the national medicare data is helpful and is the largest health insurance programme of US. This provides facility for hospitals, skilled nursing, home health and prescription drugs to patients worldwide. The stoke is among one of the most highest contributor to cost of medicare. This research article will provide review of the use of the medicare data in stroke research

Since medicare data provides randomised clinical trials that is very helpful in studying the treatment affect on patient. Also Medicare data are readily available and are national representative. They give information about the patients and their use of the healthcare services, their demographic information, service date etc. Medicare services are mainly for those patients who are 65 or above years and for all ages for those at end stage renal disease. All these data are based on center of medicare and medicoid services

Conclusion: Medicare data is very useful for the researchers.It provides high quality national data about stroke and its consequences in US It also provides crucial information for the various questions related to epidemiological,clinical and policy.
