Question

?2-test for difference of population proportions x2-test for independence Goodness of fit test .One-way ANOVA Two-way ANOVA (repeated measures ANOVA) Simple regression Multiple regression Binary logistic regression For each of the following problems, choose the appropriate statistical method from the above list and explain your choice. 1. (10 pts) A company manager wants to know how the product development cost and the marketing cost affect sales in the past 15 years. Choose the statistical method and explain your choice. 2. (10 pts) A person wants to compare the average time spent on social media among three age groups: 18-30, 31-50, older than 50. Choose the statistical method and explain your choice 3. (10 pts) A medical researcher wants to study the effect of a medicine. The scale of the effect is between 1 and 100. He chooses three different groups of patients. Group 1 is given placebo; group 2 is given 10mg of the medicine for each patient; group 3 is given 10mg of the medicine for each patient.

Explanation / Answer

1) Here the question is " A company manager wants to know how the product development cost and marketing cost affect sales in the past 15 years"

Here we want to know how sales in past 15 years are related to product development cost and marketing cost. So for thiscase we will use multiple linear regression.

2) Here the question wants to compare " the average time spent on social media among three age groups 18-30, 31-50 and older than 50.

In this case we are just comparing three means so this is a case of one way ANOVA.

3) Here the medical researcher wants to study the effect of medicine on three different groups. This is again one way anova case. The one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) is used to determine whether there are any statistically significant differences between the means of three or more independent groups.

4) According to the question, clearly it is the question of GOODNESS of Fit test. This test is used when we want to determine whether observed sample frequencies or percentages differ significantly from expected frequencies specified in the null hypothesis.
