Question
?2-test for difference of population proportions x2-test for independence Goodness of fit test .One-way ANOVA Two-way ANOVA (repeated measures ANOVA) Simple regression Multiple regression Binary logistic regression For each of the following problems, choose the appropriate statistical method from the above list and explain your choice. 1. (10 pts) A company manager wants to know how the product development cost and the marketing cost affect sales in the past 15 years. Choose the statistical method and explain your choice. 2. (10 pts) A person wants to compare the average time spent on social media among three age groups: 18-30, 31-50, older than 50. Choose the statistical method and explain your choice 3. (10 pts) A medical researcher wants to study the effect of a medicine. The scale of the effect is between 1 and 100. He chooses three different groups of patients. Group 1 is given placebo; group 2 is given 10mg of the medicine for each patient; group 3 is given 10mg of the medicine for each patient.Explanation / Answer
1. Multiple regression
Sales is the dependent variable and there are two independent variable as "product development
cost " and "marketing cost". So we need to run multiple regression of Sales on the two independent
variables as "product development cost " and "marketing cost".
2) One-Way ANOVA
There is only one factor as "age" which is divided into three different groups. If the number of groups are more than 2 then we use ANOVA for testing the equality of all the groups.
3) One-Way ANOVA
There is only one factor as "medicine" which is divided into three different doses(that is groups). So there are three levels of a single factor. Therefore we need to use One - way ANOVA.
4) Goodness of fit test
Here we can find observed frequencies of each color of the 500 samples and the expected frequencies can be obtained by using the given distribution of colors. Then we can used goodness of fit test.
