Question
At times in the past, the north and south magnetic poles have switched ocations O True False DI Question 2 1 pts Which of these features is a North American example of a transform plate boundary? Lake Michigan O San Andreas Fault O Appalachian Mountains O Rocky Mountains O Grand Canyon D | Question 3 1 pts Much of what we know about the internal stru ture and composition ofEarth has come from the study of. ' ?Mars O volcanic enptsions O satellite imagery O seismic waves D Question 4 1 pts Which of these rocks is a common type of intrasive igneous rock? sandstone O granite ?basalt O marble shaleExplanation / Answer
1)True,
We know that the outer core of the Earth is in liquid form and it is responsible for generation of current which in turn generates magnetic field. The best way to fill it by the magnetic compass, now we get needle point toward north but in past it was showing south. This is called magnetic reversal.
2) San andreas fault
This fault is formed by transform plate boundary. The pacific plate is moving towards East and North American plate is moving toward west and they are moving from side and that's why they are just moving side by side rather than collision If these plate collided then San andreas fault becomes convergent plate boundary. But it is not convergent, it is transform fault boundary.
3) Seismic waves
The evidences which has given immense information about the Earth are characterse in two : direct method and indirect method
Now, because we can't drill in earth, we need to rely on indirect evidences like seismic waves but there are direct methods like volcanic eruption but it cant provide the wide sense hence we believe in seismic waves Bacause each wave has its own characteristic. For ex., P wave can travel through liquid but S wave can't. So when earthquake happens and we get lines on seismograph at seismic station. It is in the form P-S-P. Then we can conclude that first he got liquid then solid and last again liquid. This is how we study the interior of earth.
See That's very easy and these scientists are called as seismologist.
4) Granite
Intrusive mean the rock is formed at some depth in earth. So it is granite. They can easily identified from their grain size, it is coarser. This rock is form in the depth and hence it get more time in extrusive igneous rock, and hence slow cooling occurs, so crystal can grow bigger.
Now extrusive igneous rocks are like basalt. This is form at the surface and hence it comes in contact with atmosphere and very rapidly temperature fall down, so rapid cooling which gives very less time to crystal to grow and that's why grains are very small to see by Noaked eyes, simply they are very fine.
Sandstone is sedimentary rock which is form by sediments in the ocean or at desert areas. And same shale is also form by fine clays which is transported and deposited in the sea.
Marble is metamorphic rock which is form by metamorphism of Limestone. Now, Limestone is sedimentary rock which is form by calcium and CO2 in the ocean. Later this Limestone is affected some activity like collision or some intrusion which enhance change in temperature and pressure. This converts Limestone into marble.
