Question
The first of King's three ways to meet oppression is acquiescence; in other words people whom are being oppressed accept it rather than fight it. King did not believe that this would be a way out of oppression. "To accept passively an unjust system is to cooperate with that system; thereby the oppressed become as evil as the oppressor." Physical violence and hatred towards their oppressors is the second of the three. Temporary results can come from violence however far worse problems can initiate due to physical violence towards their oppressor's. "Violence as a way of achieving racial justice is both impractical and immoral. " King's stand was that violence ended up creating more chaos for the oppressed because it focused more on hatred and not love and understanding. The third and final way for the oppressed was non-violent resistance. The idea behind non-violent resistance is attempting to reconcile two opposing sides without the use of violence or acquiescence. "With non-violent resistance, no individual or group need submit to any wrong, nor need anyone resort to violence in order to right a wrong," I do agree with Kings perspective on oppression and how to overcome it. Resorting to giving up and accepting being oppressed allows the oppressor's conscience to rest and believe what they are doing is right. Violence will not only will it create issues for the oppressed but it will set a bad example for future generations which will lead to pointless chaos. Non-violent resistance gives room for a chance of freedom. Not accepting the idea of being oppressed and staying away from violence gives an opportunity to reconcile the two sides. I agree with Non-Violent Resistance being by far the most prudent effective way of meeting oppression in todays world. I believe that the only way to seek freedom is to stay away from violence and acquiescence. Accepting the idea of being oppressed and to avoid protest is allowing the oppressor to believe what he is doing is morally right. Violence will not only create more issues but shuts down the idea of King and trying to reconcile the two opposing sides. With Non-Violent Resistance no group has to admit to any wrong and no violence needs to right a wrong.
WHAT DO YOU AGREE ON THIS PAGE OR HOW WOULD COMMENT?
Explanation / Answer
I agree with the ways with which the King intends to battle oppression using acquiescence and not accepting the outcome without any protest, avoiding physical violence and hatred which is temporary and could be fatal in the long run due to long-suppressed feelings and unhealthy tolerance towards wrong-doings and thirdly using non-violent resistance such as negotiating using discussions that could be beneficial to all. Oppression should not be tolerated by any sections of the society.
